Boston

After bouncing our way across America, we landed in Boston. We arrived a half hour ahead of schedule, which gave us more time to get out and get reacquainted with this much-loved destination. We'd forgotten just how big a city it is. People, cars, taxis, and more people.

We wandered through the Old Granary Burial Grounds and then past the State House, through the gardens, along the Frog Pond. There were people scurrying everywhere. It was the height of rush hour, and everyone had someplace to be.

We changed into less road-weary garb and headed out through the Boston Commons again, now at dusk. There were two Syria rallies going on--one against action and one seeking action. There was an unusual striped sunset. We saw a softball game in full swing (pun intended) and tennis players, bikers, runners, walkers, commuters.

What we thought would be a 25-minute walk to our restaurant destination ended up taking almost twice as long. Boston--what long blocks you have! Fortunately, we called the restaurant when we could see we weren't going to make it on time. It turned out to be a jammed and thriving Monday night at the Atlantic Fish Company, but they quickly seated us at a table with a good view to the street as well as the humming bar. We started off with cucumber sage martinis, and then had some of the best-prepared fish we've ever eaten.

All in all, we had a full and enjoyable day--a great beginning to our week in this area.
