We drove to the nearby town of Vitrac, where we had a cooking demonstration of a couple specialties of the Perigord region by a young Grand Toque chef. We then had a lovely lunch of the foods prepared, plus a couple other local specialties.
We next visited the bastide town of Domme. It is a fortified hill town from the 13th Century. Pretty town, with beautiful views of the Dordogne Valley. But the town square had been turned into a carnival atmosphere--games of chance, the ugliest carousel I've ever seen, and purveyors of lollipops and other sugar goodies. It was tricky, but one had to try to focus on the history and the spectacular views.
Our last excursion of the day was a ride on the Dordogne River on a gabare, a traditional craft of this region. Very touristy, but it was cooler on the river and the views to the cliffs, castles, and cliff-hugging towns were a pleasant end to our day.
Tomorrow, we start the day with a visit to a truffle farm. We have lunch on our own then climb onto the bus for a 2-3 hour trip to Bordeaux, where we will board our river boat. The cruise starts Monday morning. Jerry's looking forward to tasting wine and steeping himself in the wines and history of Bordeaux.
We don't know what our wireless options will be, so we'll see when next I am able to post.

Catching up on the blog. Just finished my French class at the Alliance so I am feeling very French! Missed you at the wine soiree last night. We had lots of fun and will do it again. The blog is fabulous and I am so jealous not to be with you but enjoying your travels immensely. River cruise and wine...sounds lovely to me. Enjoy. Sue R.
ReplyDeleteHi, Linda & Jerry!
ReplyDeleteJohn and I are reading (but not responding to) your entries every couple of days. We are enjoying them a great deal! Have we missed the wine tasting yet? I may have missed your evaluation of the Road Scholar group... you seem to be enjoying it... would you recommend this tour to others?
The weather is rainy/chilly here in Portland. Take care and enjoy! Jane & John
